F13LD.bundle

Helical fiber architectures — twisted bundles, ruled helicoids, interlocked braids, and plain weaves. Pick a structure, shape its fibers and twist, then set the solid topology.

Overview

What it generates.

F13LD.bundle builds fiber-based architectures with chirality and weave. Four structure types are available — bundles, helicoids, braids, and weaves — each with its own fiber and twist controls, then resolved into a solid.

Use it for anisotropic, fiber-reinforced-style and biomimetic helicoidal (Bouligand) architectures. For surface lattices, see tpms or wave; for trusses, see beam.

The idea

Helices, handedness, and weave.

A helicoid is a stack of fibers that rotates with height; its pitch ω sets the rotation rate and handedness sets the chirality. This is the Bouligand motif found in tough biological composites.

Bundles are twisted parallel fibers, braids interlock several helices, and weaves interlace fibers in plane — each producing strongly directional stiffness. Reading that directionality is covered in anisotropy & Zener.

First build

Worked example: a helicoid.

Pick a structure

Set structure to Helicoid (or Bundle, Braid, Weave). The controls below switch to match.

Shape the helix

Set pitch ω (rotation rate), thickness, and inner/outer radius. starts (1/2/3) sets how many fibers begin per turn, and handedness sets the chirality.

Resolve to a solid

Use z-step to ramp or alternate the structure along height, then set topology (Half-solid or Sheet) with sheet width and iso offset for the volume fraction.

Check the stiffness

Run homogenization — fiber architectures are strongly directional, so expect anisotropic stiffness.

Hand it off

Export JSON, or Open in F13LD.mesh.

i

Each control has an i in the tool that opens its reference entry. This page is the walkthrough; the in-tool guide documents what every control does.

Recipes

Presets.

Structure starting points to load and adjust.

biomimetic
Bouligand helicoid

Helicoid, moderate pitch, single start. The rotating-plywood motif.

aligned
Twisted bundle

Bundle with a steady twist rate. Aligned fibers, mild chirality.

braided
Triaxial braid

Braid, count N = 3. Interlocked helices.

woven
Plain weave

Weave with matched pitch and amplitude. Orthogonal interlacing.

Export

Export and handoff.

F13LD.bundle exports a recipe JSON — the structure type and its fiber and twist parameters, not a mesh.

Open in F13LD.mesh passes the recipe to mesh, which resolves the fibers into a watertight 3MF.
